TCL

Founded in 1981 as TTK Appliance Co., Ltd., a local manufacturer of audio cassettes, the company changed its name to TCL (Telephone Communication Limited) in 1985 after expanding into landline telephone production. By the 1990s, TCL transitioned into television manufacturing and quickly rose to become one of China's market leaders in color TVs and mobile communication devices, listing on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2004.

During the early 2000s, TCL embarked on an aggressive international strategy by acquiring high-profile global entities, including the television business of France's Thomson SA (owning the RCA television brand) in 2004 and the mobile phone division of Alcatel. Although these rapid cross-border acquisitions brought restructuring challenges, they provided TCL with crucial intellectual property, brand recognition, and supply chain channels across Western markets.

Over the past two decades, TCL has established itself as a global consumer electronics giant and display technology innovator. Through its major semiconductor display subsidiary, China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), TCL maintains complete vertical integration from panel creation to final assembly. Today, TCL is renowned worldwide for pioneering Mini-LED display panels, smart televisions, household appliances, and mobile devices, consistently ranking among the top television brands globally in sales volume.
